Past and present lives

I've added reviews of Kathleen Ross's new book, Bound by Destiny and Muriel Dowding, The Psychic Life of Muriel, The Lady Dowding, to my Exploring the Afterlife Blog. Both deal with soul mates, reincarnation and psychic abilities but in very different ways.

Dear Fiona,

what news on the forthcoming book, Ethnographic Approaches to the Afterlife? It has been a bit quiet of late and I was just wondering....

Thanks

Terry

Hi Fiona,
Thank you for the welcome to ARC forum,
I am a 47 year old male living in the west midlands area of the uk, for some reason i have always been interested in life after death, i've attended my local spiritualist church periodically over the years and sat in their open circle for a while.
I've been very interested in healing and physical mediumship, although never sat in a circle dedicated for physical mediumship. I hope that one day that i will be able to find a circle to join so that i may be able to witness physical phenomena.
I have joined this forum to learn and meet like minded people and hopefully increase my knowledge and understanding of spiritual matters.
Thank you again for allowing me to join this forum, and i would like to say hello to everyone here.
Kind regards, colin

Fiona, thanks so much for your enthusiastic  welcome. I have posted the material you suggested under forum. It seems to me that we have many similar interests which I am sure will be great fodder for future discussion. Although I do have a NY address, I spend much of my time in Germany and France. That means not so far from England. I am hoping to be able to attend some of your events. I much admire the work you are doing.

Yours,

Julia

Hi Fiona,

Thank you for the welcome.  I arrived at the ICC the semester after Harvey Whitehouse left and Jesse Bering took over.  I became interested in Bering's experimental research demonstrating that children as young as 4 believe that it is possible for others to survive death (which has been replicated cross-culturally now many times).  My research has mostly been concerning the connection between Bering's experiments and Paul Bloom's claim that humans are intuitive Cartesian substance dualists.  I argue, on the contrary, that embodied representations of the "after-living" deceased are the intuitive default stance based on the offline social reasoning process.  If you are interested, I have uploaded all of my work to my academia.edu page, and I have two recent papers for which I would love feedback from any members of this site who are so willing!

By the way, I was trying to upload a profile picture, and I could not seem to get it to upload.  I tried uploading a photo into the regular gallery and it worked just fine.  Not sure what the problem is there.

Thank you again for the warm welcome!

All the best,

Mitch

Thank you for your message, Fiona. The course was fine, it was the personal details that did not register. With very best wishes for 2012 :-)

Hi Fiona, I'm not sure why my profile information is not registering. I have signed up and logged in. Perhaps you could take a look and let me know what I am doing wrong. Best wishes and Happy New Year :-)

No nothing as yet on the subject - but a 'culturally experiential' perspective is definitely warranted!

Hi Fiona

I'm a tutor at the Arthur Findlay College and work at home and abroad at various centres. I'm particularly drawn at the moment to the research of Spirit Communication in other cultures. Working with students from all over the world is fascinating and the experience of recognizing cultural influences is very stimulating.

Hi Fiona and thanks for the welcome. I'm really looking forward to engaging with your site. As a Tutor, Academic and a Medium I enjoy keeping up to date with all the current and ongoing research. Some of the articles I have read on this site are very thought provoking and it so reflects a long awaited contemporary approach. I love that I end up having more questions than answers! It's important that as I teach areas of Mediumship and working in an altered state of consciousness, I know what work is being done and what the findings are. I wouldn't be happy teaching others something because it's what I was 'told'. I've got to 'thrash' a theory in my mind a few times before that and consolidate with those who have taken the time to research. Fantastic work you are doing!

Thanks again for the welcome:)

Helen
